Question 679: Can washing, shrouding, and praying over a deceased person who has died from a contagious disease be abandoned?

Answer
✅Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 3, p. 40
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: Washing the dead is obligatory.
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 330
Abi Khalid said: (The Imam, peace be upon him) said: Wash all the dead: the drowned, the one torn apart by beasts, and any other, except for the martyr who is killed between the two lines (in battle).
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 328
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrated from his fathers from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) who said: Pray over the stoned one from my nation and over the one who commits suicide from my nation, and do not leave anyone from my nation without a prayer!
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 328
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Pray over anyone who dies from the people of the Qibla, and their reckoning is with Allah!
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 328
Hisham ibn Salim said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): When a wine-drinker, fornicator, or thief dies, is the funeral prayer performed over them? He said: Yes!
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 291
Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them both) said: The shroud (kafan) of three pieces is obligatory for men, and the turban and loincloth are recommended, but for women the obligatory shroud is five pieces!
✅ According to numerous narrations, of which a few have been mentioned, preparing the deceased Muslim—meaning washing, shrouding, and burying with specific rulings and etiquettes—is obligatory.
Although there are exceptions in some cases of washing, shrouding, and burial in specific manners, in the narrations the death of a person due to a contagious disease has not been mentioned as an allowance to abandon washing, shrouding, and burial. It is necessary that these deceased also receive their proper Islamic washing, shrouding, and burial!
✅ Interestingly, in the narrations one of the disliked professions is declared to be the selling of shrouds, and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) explained the reason:
Because the shroud seller becomes pleased at the occurrence of plague!
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 5, p. 114
✅ It is clear that in those times, by the ruling of Islam, even though they considered plague to be contagious, they still shrouded the dead. But today.....??!
Washing, shrouding, and burial of one who dies from a contagious disease
Funeral prayer
